Immaginate un’isola. Dentro quest’isola c’è un’altra isola. In quest’isola c’è una città con due nomi differenti. La città è attraversata da un fiume. Siamo in Irlanda del Nord e la città è Derry per i nazionalisti irlandesi, Londonderry per gli unionisti fedeli alla corona inglese, una città devastata in passato dalla violenza settaria e ancora di fatto divisa in due. Al centro della cittá scorre il fiume Foyle. Questa è la sua autobiografia. Attraverso la sua narrazione, il Foyle ci invita a riflettere sui sogni di coloro che quel fiume hanno visto scorrere, su ciò che sta oltre i suoi confini, sul concetto stesso di confine.

Imagine an island. Within this island there is another island. Within this other island there is a city: a city with two different names. Inside this city with two names, flows a river. This is its autobiography. It Is the story of a river able to reveal a sense of life imprisoned by history. Despite the end of the conflict, in Northern Ireland there is still a city with two different names: Derry, for nationalists, Londonderry for unionists. In the middle of the city, flows the river Foyle, which separates them and at the same time act as their border. What is a border? Are the dreams of those who lived before the conflict different from those dreamed today? And above all, what happened to our dreams?
