Straordinario viaggio sonoro alla scoperta di una delle più interessanti scene musicali contemporanee, tra radici tradizionali e chitarre elettriche, in compagnia di musicisti che combattono per la libertà d’espressione, oggi minacciata dai fondamentalisti islamici. Il Mali, situato nel cuore dell’Africa occidentale, è considerato la culla del Blues e del Jazz. Per secoli la musica ha contribuito a rafforzare l’identità culturale nazionale. Tra i protagonisti: Fatoumata Diawara, compositrice e cantante di fama mondiale, il musicista e cantante “griot” Bassekou Kouyaté, lo street rapper Master Soumy e il leader della band Tuareg Ahmed Ag Kaedi.

Mali, situated in the heart of Western Africa, is the cradle of today’s Blues and Jazz. For centuries music has strengthened Mali’s cultural identity and musicians are holding strong positions in society. Following Fatoumata Diawara, the young shooting star of the global pop scene, MALI BLUES is a musical journey, discovering the country’s rich musical culture and it’s threat by radical Islamists. On our way we meet other committed musicians, who are fighting for unity and the freedom to express themselves through their music, like world famous Ngoni player and traditional Griot Bassekou Kouyaté, street rapper Master Soumy and Tuareg band leader Ahmed Ag Kaedi.
