June 2013, Maged returned to Cairo – after the January 25, 2011 revolution that led to Mubarak’s fall – to make a documentary about the Sphinx and to relaunch tourism in Egypt. He has faced with another revolt, this time against the democratically elected president Morsi and his government of the Muslim brotherhood.
Maged has been overwhelmed by events and entered into a state of Sinesthesia in which he rediscovered an intimate part of his childhood by revealing fragments of his identity divided between Egypt and Italy
Maged El-Mahedy, writer and playwright, was born in Egypt in 1958. He studied and graduated in philosophy from the University of Alexandria, Egypt, in 1983. He then immigrated to Italy, graduating from the National Institute of Cinematography in Rome in 1994. He has worked as an interpreter and
teacher of Arabic. He worked as a television director from 1998 to 2000 at the Egyptian television channel Nile TV and from 2000 to 2001 at the Arab Art TV in Avezzano. He is author and screenwriter of the
film “The Sunflower”, 2001. In 2006 the University
of Cagliari published his book “Diary of an immigrant film director”, written in Arabic and Italian.
