THE NOSE OR THE CONSPIRACY OF MAVERICKS

The Nose or the Conspiracy of Mavericks is a sprawling but carefully controlled artistic study on the role of the artist, the audience and (as always) the nature of the oppression itself. It circumscribes the times and the rise of the Russian Avant-garde scene, the Soviet Regime up to the Stalinist purges of intellectuals The film is based on the two greatest creations of the Russian genius: A short story, “The Nose” by Nikolai Gogol, and an opera, “The Nose” that composer Dmitri Shostakovich made Gogol’s novel into in 1930.The film is dedicated to pioneers, innovators in art. People who are ahead of their time. And, most importantly, who have no fear to go against the tide. At the cost of personal well-being, and often life. The main characters of the film are writers Nikolai Gogol and Mikhail Bulgakov, director Vsevolod Meyerhold and composer Dmitry Shostakovich.

LAMB – Icelandic thriller. Un Certain Regard Cannes 2021

A childless couple in rural Iceland make an alarming discovery one day in their sheep barn. They soon face the consequences of defying the will of nature, in this dark and atmospheric folktale, the striking debut feature from director Valdimar Jóhannsson. Darkly imaginative and brought to life by a pair of striking central performances, Lamb shears expectations with its singularly wooly chills, blending humor, dread, and sorrow into one picture, and providing commentary on the human journey. It’s a unique film experience that is equal parts peculiar and absorbing.

VESUVIO – O COME HANNO IMPARATO A VIVERE IN MEZZO AI VULCANI

The metropolitan area of Naples is one of the most densely populated on the planet and lies between Vesuvius and Campi Flegrei, two of the most dangerous active volcanoes in the world. Over a million people live in the so-called red zone, ready to be evacuated at the first sign of an eruption. Perhaps. The film relates the stories of those who live there on this “time bomb” and who, despite the danger, are linked to this land of fire, to the traditions and superstitions on the black mountain, Vesuvius, which overlooks the city, as if was the true and only master.
