“Koi” by Lorenzo Squarcia from the Jumping Flea collective and “Too Big Drawing” by Genadzi Buto respectively win the Jury Prize for Best Film and Best Short Film at ON THE ROAD FILM FESTIVAL 8, travel and frontier cinema.
Eva Voudrait by Liza Diaz and the shorts Too Big Drawing and The Van (ex-aequo) win the Audience Award.

Fatiha, Malika, Anissa and Sarah don’t seem to have much in common except for their specific relation to a shrill, loud cry, ‘the youyou’. But their stories about desire, migration, revolt and be/longing resonate all the more with mutual feelings as the film unfolds towards a collective and poetic statement about female solidarity. The youyou is the French colonial name for the high pitched trill that women in Northern Africa and the Middle Eeast launch as an expression of joy or other intense emotions.

A computer screen, images from the four corners of the world. We cross borders in one click while another trip’s story reach us in fragments, through text messages, chats, phone conversations, and an immigration office’s questionnaire. It’s the journey of Shahin, a 20-year- old Iranian boy who, fleeing his country alone, lands in Greece, then winds his way to England where he claims asylum.

One day I read the story of an aboriginal legend according to which, each ancestor leaves behind him a sinuous path full of songs and spirit-children. When a person walks along the trail of his ancestor, it brings back the songs and stories of the earth. And if a child is born from the journey, he becomes the child of these songs. I went to Tunisia and Algeria to collect songs and popular stories of the Revolution of Independence, on the trail of a family memory and the vinyl record of the Italian anarchist group Cantacronache “Canti della Rivoluzione algerina” (“Songs of the Algerian Revolution”).

Four circus families, abandoned by the institutions, find themselves suspended in the hope that the pandemic will disappear as in a magic show. The artists of the traveling show begin their metamorphosis, their forced entry into the world of the “rooted” in which everyone tries to reinvent themselves in order to survive. The circus has stopped: perhaps forever.

The On the Road Film Festival 8. Adriano Lanzi, Roman guitarist, composer, improvisor, and performer of electronic music, will play live the sound track of The Man with the cine camera, by Dziga Vertov, filmed from dawn to dusk, mainly in the Ukrainian (then in the USSR) city of Odessa.
