LAURENT GARNIER: OFF THE RECORD (French/English o.v. ita subs)
A look into the life of Laurent Garnier, one of the pioneers of house music, from his emergence on the music scene in the 80’s to now.
In the film, the tour footage and interviews are interspersed with archival footage that provides a flashback to the late ’80s, when the techno scene was emerging in Detroit and England, in clubs like Manchester’s Hacienda, where Garnier started his DJing journey, and then Rex, a club in Paris, where Garnier moved to next. The film also includes the political and judicial response to rave culture, which in some countries was met with police brutality. “We’re not where we are today without a fight,” Garnier said.
When Garnier set off on his 2018/2019 world tour, Rivoire traveled with him, taking in performances in front of 15,000 people at Sónar Festival in Barcelona, Bassiani, a mecca for techno in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, and crowded clubs in Tokyo. Rivoire also filmed interviews with other dance music pioneers, such as Carl Cox, Pedro Winter, Seth Troxler, Jeff Mills and Derrick May.

Based at the legendary DETOUR Arthouse Cinema, in the heart of Rome since 1997, ON THE ROAD FILM FESTIVAL is devoted to contemporary independent cinema – fiction, documentary and experimental – presenting travelogues, urban and waste-land wanderings, real or imaginary topographies, unexpected detours, psycho-geographical drifts, migration and nomadism.
We look for films that develop, through linguistic and narrative skills, a critical and inventive approach to the subject guidelines of the Festival: a traveling mood with digressions from fixed paths, where the route is what matters, not the destination. The Festival hosts screenings, master classes, meetings, art exhibitions, live performances and music, both at DETOUR Cinema and at a variety of cinema venues, film clubs, schools, public libraries and other unusual locations in Rome and and in its surrounding area.

A cinematic portrait of the world-wide legendary Argentinian composer who changed tango. For the first time ever, the hidden archives of bandoneón player Astor Piazzolla are opened by his son Daniel. Piazzolla is, along with Carlos Gardel, the most notable tango musician of the 20th century. The film features a previously unreleased collection of interviews with the artist himself, recorded before his death in 1992. The film uses those tapes, video of classic performances and the extensive memorabilia collection of Piazzolla’s son, Daniel, to tell the story of the international superstar.

39TFF Files. Un detouriano a Torino
Si è concluso da pochi giorni il Torino Film Festival. La 39esima edizione, pur dovendo fare i conti con l’era Covid, ci ha regalato un risultato incoraggiante, con sale sold out per le proiezioni in concorso. Segno evidente che il pubblico cinematografico ha ancora a cuore il rituale della visione collettiva.
Vi segnaliamo alcuni titoli fra i più interessanti ed altri che ci piacerebbe proporvi anche al Cine Detour fra quelli che siamo riusciti a vedere in anteprima.
