The young Ah Bee goes on a comedic odyssey through Tiong Bahru Social Club, a data-driven project to create the happiest neighbourhood in the world. Little by little Ah Bee’s encounters with the neighbourhood’s residents reveal the absurdity of life.
Nine international On the Road short films, largely unreleased in Italy, of different genres, selected from hundreds of proposals received from all over the world for this year’s SHORT> CUTS competition. The spectators in the hall will award the Detour Audience Award, voting for the Best Short. The Jury composed of Silvia Stucky (Multidisciplinary Artist), Nicoletta Bea (Animation Designer), Maya Vetri (Cultural Curator) will award the Award for the Best Short On the Road. The awards ceremony will follow in the presence of guests and the Juries.
Fatiha, Malika, Anissa and Sarah don’t seem to have much in common except for their specific relation to a shrill, loud cry, ‘the youyou’. One day I read the story of an aboriginal legend according to which, each ancestor leaves behind him a sinuous path full of songs and spirit-children. When a person walks along the trail of his ancestor, it brings back the songs and stories of the earth. And if a child is born from the journey, he becomes the child of these songs. I went to Tunisia and Algeria to collect songs and popular stories of the Revolution of Independence, on the trail of a family memory and the vinyl record of the Italian anarchist group Cantacronache “Canti della Rivoluzione algerina” (“Songs of the Algerian Revolution”).
