Escaping the Temple racconta le storie intrecciate intensamente personali di tre giovani artisti contemporanei gioiosi, carismatici e ribelli, che raggiungono un punto di svolta nelle loro vite. <\/span><\/p>\n

In una Cina  in cui antiche tradizioni e una cultura millenaria si scontrano con il vuoto morale e spirituale del capitalismo moderno, una generazione che sembra aver voltato le spalle alla politica e alla lotta per il cambiamento sociale si muove in nuove direzioni alla ricerca della propria identit\u00e0..<\/span><\/p>\n

Il Coreografo Zhao Liang si sente fuori luogo in una societ\u00e0 dal ritmo frenetico e dove chi si ferma \u00e8 perduto, ed \u00e8 tentato dall’idea di entrare in un monastero buddista. Qiu Qiu, gravato dalla fama di suo nonno, un titano dell’Opera di Pechino che sente di non poter mai uguagliare, \u00e8 posto di fronte alla scelta di continuare lungo il percorso i suoi antenati  o ribellarsi e costruirsi una nuova identit\u00e0.  Li Nan \u00e8 una madre e moglie riluttante, divisa tra il bisogno di trovare uno spazio artistico per respirare e la necessit\u00e0 di non distruggere la sua famiglia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Escaping the Temple tells the intensely personal intertwined stories of three sensitive, individualistic and rebellious modern dancers each reaching a crossroads in their lives. They must all resolve their issues to move forward.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Escaping the Temple shows a China not well known to the West, a new vision where ancient beliefs and culture collide with the moral and spiritual vacuum of modern-day capitalism. We show a generation who have turned their back on politics and social change and search for new directions.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

Choreographer Zhao Liang is on a quest to find meaning in a fast- paced modern China where to stop to think means falling behind in the rat-race. Faced with potentially ruinous debts, Zhao Liang is tempted by the call of life as a Buddhist monk. Lead male Qiu Qiu is burdened by the fame of his grandfather, a titan of the Peking Opera who he feels he can never live up to. Qiu Qiu faces a choice of carrying on along the path his ancestors have laid for him or rebelling and forging a completely new one. Lead female Li Nan is a reluctant mother and wife. Can she find artistic room to breathe without breaking up her family?<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

The dance performance of the same name brings them together and we follow two years of their lives as the piece takes shape.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

In Escaping the Temple we take the audience on a search for meaning in modern China, guided by three complex, joyful and charismatic dancers each trying to find their way.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n
