Beijing Double Happiness experiences an audio-visual travel dialogue, two lovers shoot in Super 8 and Video throughout ten days in Beijing. A double-faced Janus, where experimental techniques and technologies converge. The film is presented as a set of coexisting audio-visual fragments, assembled through the editing as patterns of memory, of an experience. The film is in fact an audio-visual research that aims to revive a perceptual journey through the fascinating contemporary Beijing.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

La storia di Yu Xiuhua, una semplice donna di campagna diventata, nonostante una paralisi cerebrale, la pi\u00f9 celebre poetessa della Cina. Yu ha uno spirito brillante, ma cammina a fatica e ha difficolt\u00e0 ad articolare le parole. In seguito ad un matrimonio combinato, Yu si trova coinvolta in una relazione che la rende molto infelice. Attraverso le sue poesie, Yu contempla il proprio destino, esprime il suo desiderio d’amore e riesce ad emanciparsi.<\/span><\/p>\n

Her frankly sexual poem \u201cCrossing Half of China to Sleep with You\u201d went viral on Chinese social media in January 2015, turning her into a nationwide sensation. Director Jian Fan follows Yu as literary fame opens up new possibilities for her at the age of 40. She embraces her new life eagerly, with no-nonsense aplomb. The text of Yu\u2019s poetry is rendered beautifully onscreen accompanied by lush, languid visuals. Through Yu\u2019s story, Fan subtly uncovers the conflicting dynamics of desire at play between urban and rural life, between men and women, and between an individual and societal norms. <\/span><\/em><\/p>\n

When one of her poems is shared more than a million times on Chinese social media, Xiuhua Yu suddenly finds that she is famous. The contrast with her previous life could not be greater. Yu has lived and worked all her life on her parents\u2019 simple farm, and is disabled by cerebral palsy. Twenty years ago, her parents arranged for her to be married to a laborer who has no feelings for her. Fame brings her financial freedom: suddenly, Xiuhua Yu is able to think about a different future, freed from her husband. In this frank and intimate portrait, we follow her in the year of her breakthrough. Yu is painfully aware that for a woman with a disability, life will never be simple. However pragmatically she speaks about it, and however eloquently she writes about it, she still struggles to escape her physical and emotional chains.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n
