Il documentario racconta con materiali d\u2019archivio inediti la vita e l\u2019attivit\u00e0 di uno dei grandi protagonisti dell\u2019architettura e del design Alvar Aalto e della sua prima moglie Aino, una coppia che con le loro iconiche creazioni ha definito il segno del design scandinavo. La narrazione segue uno scambio epistolare dei due architetti finlandesi raccontando il rapporto privato, la fondazione dell\u2019azienda Artek e la relazione con le altre personalit\u00e0 di spicco del Movimento Moderno. Il film di Virpi Suutari mostra anche alcune creazioni architettoniche firmate da Aalto, tra i circa trecento progetti da lui realizzati in tutto il mondo: il sanatorio di Paimio in Finlandia, la biblioteca di Viipuri in Russia, la celebre Villa Mairea, l\u2019abitazione del collezionista Louis Carr\u00e9 alle porte di Parigi e, fra i suoi ultimi progetti, la Finlandia Hall. Opere accomunate dall\u2019importanza della luce e da una stretta relazione con la natura, un\u2019architettura a misura d\u2019uomo.<\/span><\/p>\n

Virpi Suutari (Finlandia 1967). I suoi film hanno partecipato ai maggiori festival internazionali. Ha ricevuto vari premi per il Best Nordic Documentary e tre Jussi Award, gli oscar finlandesi. Il suo documentario Entrepreneur (2018) \u00e8 stato presentato nella Master selction dell’IDFA, al Chicago International Film Festival e al Sydney Film Festival.<\/span><\/p>\n

A documentary about the life and career of one of the great architect and designer Alvar Aalto and his first wife Aino, with unpublished archival materials. The couple\u2019s iconic creations defined Scandinavian design. An exchange of letters between the two Finnish architects narrates their private relationship, how they founded Artek and their relationship with other Modernists. Suutari’s film also shows several of the nearly 300 architectural projects Aalto completed world-wide: the Paimio sanatorium in Finland, the Viipuri library in Russia, the famous Villa Mairea, the home of collector Louis Carr\u00e9 on the outskirts of Paris, and, among his latest projects, the Finlandia Hall: works united by the importance of light and a close relationship with nature, an architecture on a human scale.  <\/span><\/p>\n
