ITA. In un manicomio un ex marinaio \u00e8 stato assunto come portinaio e inserviente. Fra i ricoverati c’\u00e8 sua moglie, impazzita dopo aver tentato di annegarsi insieme al figlioletto: lei \u00e8 sopravvissuta mentre il bambino \u00e8 morto. L’uomo tenta inutilmente di farla evadere, ma la donna \u00e8 terrorizzata e non \u00e8 in grado di affrontare la fuga.<\/div>\n

Creduto perduto per quarantacinque anni, fu ritrovato per caso dallo stesso regista e fu diffuso nel 1971. Il film, muto, non contiene didascalie perch\u00e9 le proiezioni cinematografiche giapponesi negli anni ’20 prevedevano la presenza nella sala di un narratore, e manca di un terzo dell’originale del 1926. Il film \u00e8 ritenuto un capolavoro dell’avanguardia cinematografica giapponese della prima met\u00e0 del Novecento.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Mike Cooper<\/strong> \u00e8 un musicista polistrumentista inglese. Inizia la sua carriera come chitarrista, cantante e autore di folk-blues, per poi diversificare il suo lavoro, includendo l’improvvisazione e la musica elettronica, le sonorizzazioni di film, la radio-art e le installazioni sonore. Si dedica alla scrittura, come giornalista musicale e storico delle musiche e dei musicisti del Pacifico (\u00e8 anche collezionista di camice hawaiane….); artista visivo e filmaker, compare in pi\u00f9 di sessanta dischi.<\/div>\n

ENG. A man takes a job as a janitor at a mental asylum in order to be near his wife. Although his wife suffers genuine mental anguish, the man believes he can rescue her, but his attempt to break her out one night backfires when she panics. After she returns to her room, the husband again makes plans to try to take her out, only to be interrupted in the attempt by a doctor and several attendants, whom he attacks and believes he has killed.<\/p>\n

Believed lost for forty-five years, the film was found by chance by the director himself and was released in 1971. It does not contain intertitles because Japanese cinema screenings in the 1920s required the presence of a narrator in the cinema, and a third of its original 1926 version is missing. The film is considered a masterpiece of the Japanese cinematographic avant-garde of the first half of the twentieth century.<\/p>\n

Mike Cooper<\/strong>  is an English guitarist and singer-songwriter. Initially coming to attention as a country blues performer, his later work also straddles jazz, Polynesian, ambient, and various experimental and improvisational styles.<\/p>\n
