Commedia noir scritta e diretta dal regista Jonathan Nossiter (Mondovino, Resistenza Nnaturale) e interpretato da David Suchet e Lisa Harrow. La vicenda si svolge interamente nell’arco di una giornata domenicale in una zona depressa del quartiere del Queens a NY. Oliver \u00e8 un ex funzionario di una azienda informatica che ha appena perso lavoro, moglie e legami famigliari, diventando nei fatti un homeless. Vagabondando per il quartiere, si imbatte in Madeleine, un’attrice inglese anche lei disoccupata, in procinto di separarsi dal marito americano. Madeleine scambia Oliver per un famoso regista e l’uomo se ne approfitta, sperando che questo lo aiuti a fuggire dalla miseria da cui rischia di venire travolto… Film vincitore del prestigioso Sundance Film Festival 1997, del<\/span>\u00a0Premio Internazionale della Critica a Deauville. Selezionato al Certain Regard di Cannes.<\/span><\/p>\n

Writer-director Jonathan Nossiter’s first feature film is a moody exploration of assaults upon, and shifts in, personal identity. The movie’s action all takes place on a Sunday in a poor section of the New York City borough of Queens. Oliver (David Suchet) is a newly homeless middle-aged man who was downsized out of his job as a mid-level functionary at a computer corporation and lost his wife and family because of his employment troubles. Out walking in the borough, Oliver collides with\u00a0Madeleine Vesey (Lisa Harrow), an out-of-work British actress who is in the process of breaking up with her American husband, Ben (Larry Pine). Madeleine mistakes Oliver for Matthew Delacorta, a famous film director, and Oliver goes along with the mistake, hoping that it will help him to escape his misery.\u00a0Grand Jury prize at the 1997 Sundance Film Festival.<\/span>

E’ ‘Rio Sex Comedy’, il film di Jonathan Nossiter con Charlotte Rampling, Irene Jacob e Bill Pullman.\u00a0Rio de Janeiro \u00e8 la destinazione scelta per le disavventure di un gruppo di espatriati, alla ricerca sia della propria felicit\u00e0 e piacere personale che delle giustizia sociale. \u00a0La Rampling\u00a0interpreta la parte di Charlotte, un chirurgo estetico che consiglia ai propri clienti di non ricorrere alla chirurgia estetica. ”L’aspetto che nel film si narra della chirurgia estetica – dichiara l’attrice – \u00e8 questa forma liberatoria assolutamente controcorrente, a dispetto di quello che invece questa disciplina medica rappresenta. Oggi c’\u00e8 quest’ansia di ritoccare il viso, di rifarsi, di non accettare l’idea dell’invecchiamento, di volere essere come Dio e non invecchiare. In questo senso il film va controcorrente e Charlotte, personaggio cotruito su di me e che si chiama proprio come me, nel film fa fortuna e guadagna moltissimo nel dissuadere i pazienti dal fare interventi di chirurgia estetica”.<\/p>\n

Alec Skarsgard (Stellan Skarsgard) is a Stockholm-born American who lives in Athens and works as a commodities trader. He takes great pride in his ability to perceive patterns and trends in the daily undulations of the market and thereby turn a huge profit. In\u00a0his private life, he also obsesses over random incidents and occurrences, looking for a deeper meaning in the chaos of everyday life. Though he loves his longtime wife Marjorie (Charlotte Rampling) and their two teenaged children, he finds that he cannot resist the seductive wiles of his co-worker Katherine (Deborah Kara Unger). The film\u00a0was inspired by the Polish surrealist novel,\u00a0Kosmos<\/i>\u00a0of\u00a0Witold Gombrowicz.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
