Ren\u00e9 Vautier filma\u00a0nel 1958 sulla linea del fronte i partigiani algerini che lottano per\u00a0conquistare l\u2019indipendenza e la libert\u00e0 del loro paese. Per questo film sar\u00e0\u00a0condannato a morte in Francia e incarcerato due anni nelle prigioni del GPRA in\u00a0Tunisia.<\/span><\/p>\n

Scenes from the FLN\u2019s struggle for\u00a0Algeria’s independence.<\/span> Vautier went underground for the film\u2019s making,\u00a0was wounded several times, finally got caught and was sentenced to 25 months in\u00a0prison. Film making as an act of solidarity in the\u00a0international anti-imperialist struggle.<\/span><\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

1950: la\u00a0ricostruzione di Brest, rasa al suolo durante la guerra. Uno sciopero generale viene<\/span> bloccato con le armi: muore un giovane operaio,\u00a0Edouard Maz\u00e9. Il cineasta Ren\u00e9 Vautier ritorna clandestinamente dall\u2019Irlanda\u00a0per filmare la citt\u00e0 in lutto e la lotta degli operai. L\u2019unica copia del breve\u00a0film, con il solo commento di una poesia di Eluard, viene\u00a0<\/span>proiettata nei cantieri in sciopero, da una cabina montata su un camioncino,\u00a0diventando essa stessa parte di quel fatto, cinema d\u2019intervento sociale. Storie\u00a0di <\/span>immagini, immagini di storia, racconta\u00a0l\u2019ingiustizia vissuta da Pierre Cauzien, ferito durante la stessa\u00a0manifestazione e morto senza aver mai ottenuto il riconoscimento legale di\u00a0vittima della violenza poliziesca.<\/span><\/p>\n

1950: Rebuilding of Brest, destroyed during the war. A general strike is blocked by force of arms: Edouard Maz\u00e9, a young worker, dies in the struggle. The filmmaker Ren\u00e9 Vautier smuggle back from Ireland to film the city in mourning, and the workers’ struggle. The only reel of this short film, with an audio comment from a poem by Eluard, is projected at the construction sites, during the strike, becoming itself part of that struggle, as cinema of social intervention. \u201cHistoires d\u2019images, images d’Histoire\u201d, tells the injustice experienced by Pierre Cauzien, mortally wounded during the same event, without ever having obtained any legal recognition as a victims of police violence.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Girato in super 8, \u00e8 un viaggio lungo il fiume Narmada in India, tra il mito del progresso e i miti ancestrali del fiume. \u00abLe dighe saranno il tempio dell\u2019India moderna\u00bb dichiarava Nehru come proclama dell\u2019indipendenza nazionale. La costruzione di un vasto complesso di dighe sul fiume Narmada \u00e8 stata completata. La lotta sociale \u00e8 organizzata. \u00e8 ora il momento di incontrare gli abitanti e le loro credenze e convinzioni.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Shot on super 8, the film appears like a journey, a dream along the Narmada river in India, between myths of Progress and myths of the river. \u201cDams are the temples of modern India,\u201d declared Nehru as the country proclaimed its independence. Construction on a vast complex of dams is soon to be completed on the Narmada river.
