The Wednesday Play<\/i><\/b>\u00a0\u00e8 una serie televisiva inglese\u00a0trasmessa sulla BBC\u00a0da ottobre 1964 a maggio\u00a01970. I film che la compongono sono stati apprezzati\u00a0critica e dal pubblico per aver saputo rappresentare la societ\u00e0 contemporanea, portando l’attenzione del grande pubblico a temi sociali scomodi e delicati che non erano mai stati affrontati sugli schermi televisivi prima di allora.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Wednesday Play<\/i><\/b>\u00a0is an anthology series of\u00a0British<\/span>\u00a0television plays<\/span>\u00a0which ran on\u00a0BBC1<\/span>\u00a0from October 1964 to May 1970. The series gained a reputation for presenting contemporary social dramas, and for bringing issues to the attention of a mass audience that would not otherwise have been discussed on screen.<\/span><\/p>\n

This ground-breaking drama saw Ken Loach take the filming out of the studio and onto the very streets depicted in the story. With an immediacy only ever seen in current affairs programmes, the portrayal of ordinary people’s lives had an authenticity seldom witnessed in television drama.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n

Le condizioni della ragazza\u00a0sono la conseguenza dell’ipocrisia, dell’egoismo e della debolezza di coloro che la circondano, oppure Kate pu\u00f2 essere solo diagnosticata e trattata\u00a0come schizofrenica? Un film drammatico raccontato nello stile documentaristico del giovane Loach e scritto da David Mercer che, mettendo in discussione le idee convenzionali sulla schizofrenia, suscit\u00f2 all’epoca un acceso dibattito sui media britannici.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Kate, a young girl under psychiatric examination, suffers from a lack of confidence, self-esteem and self-control — telling of the “bad Kate” who commits immoral acts. Could the hypocrisy, selfishness and weakness of those around her have led to this state of mind or can Kate simply be diagnosed and dismissed as a schizophrenic?\u00a0In a drama told in Loach’s convincing documentary style, writer David Mercer questioned the accepted condition of schizophrenia. The film, broadcast in The Wednesday Play series, led to heated discussions on television and in the press, while Mercer won the Writers’ Guild Award for the Best Television Play of 1967.<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n
